Embracing the New Year: Letting Go and Stepping Into 2025

Embracing the New Year: Letting Go and Stepping Into 2025

Happy New Year! I’m Dr. Allana Da Graca, and I am so excited to begin this year with you. As we step into 2025, I want to reflect, release, and renew.

Looking back, we all remember the chaos of 2020—an unforgettable chapter in history. During that time, I wrote a poem titled #STAYHOME, which is featured in my book Sidonia’s Chronicles. The poem was inspired by the overwhelming challenges our country faced during the pandemic. A lawyer friend shared with me how divorce rates were rising sharply, and reports revealed that abused children were suffering at even higher rates due to being stuck at home. These stories led me to imagine a character—a professional woman who had endured personal setbacks and tragedy—having a raw and introspective conversation with an antagonist in her life.

Here is that poem, #STAYHOME:

My third glass of vodka and my memories are here,

Nothing else to do but try to get clear,

Looking at the images that were never there,

Worried about iReports, but no knowledge of how you are in despair.

That last conversation was not the end,

My conscious told me to sit on this bench.

Mask is on, and I still worry

That our talk was meaningless, and it caused us to leave each other in a hurry.

But—it’s Quarantine time—so when will you come clean?

say "I am so sorry for always being so MEAN."

I have accomplished a lot and have the stories of three lives,

But nothing can ever take the place of having my tribe.

I have now accepted your denial is at stake,I

have come out of my box and can no longer be fake.I

have spoken to counsel and prayed 1 million times,

But I got to a place where my drug was my grind.

Now I know that this situation is not really about you,

It’s about your hidden pain that all started when you were two.

I am so sorry for your loss,

That pain that caused you to bully,

in order to feel like a boss.

I am sad that no one likes to ring your bell,

Or that there is no internal water in your well.

I have finally released those hidden pains,

Now I am ready to receive the abundance of rain.

I had to release you in order to be free,

Accept your behavior and maltreatment since the age of three.

It is now okay to never bring it up again—I have left that old zip code.

This poem captures the weight of introspection, healing, and ultimately, the freedom of letting go. It reminds us that to move forward, we must release what no longer serves us and embrace the journey of self-discovery and growth.

So, what about you?If I were sitting with you right now, I’d ask: What do you need to let go of to truly step into your best self this year?

Grab your journal and take a moment to reflect. Write down seven phrases or beliefs that still echo in your mind—the ones that hold you back. Maybe it’s the voice that says you’re not enough or the fear that your dreams aren’t worth pursuing. Whatever it is, name it, face it, and release it.

Let me tell you something: You have everything you need to succeed. But believing in your worth is the key. If you don’t see your value, others won’t either. That’s why this year, I want to encourage you to stay in the process.

Here are some steps to help you step into your greatness in 2025:

Here’s to stepping boldly into all we’re meant to be. I look forward to what we’ll accomplish together this year!

With love and determination,Dr. Allana Da Graca
